Visiting Sentosa during March 2010 school holidays

Spur-of-the-moment decision to visit Sentosa's Palawan Beach. We wanted to bring the kids down to Sentosa to see the sand sculpture exhibits and be able to play in the sand and the beach. Also to ride the luge again. An activity they missed a lot since our travel to New Zealand.

We boarded the train to Harbourfront to go to Vivocity where we took the Sentosa Express. Newsflash - visitors can now use EZlink cards to pay for the admission and transpo to Sentosa. We didn't really know this before going there. It was a really long time since we last visited Sentosa. Good thing we still had enough card balance for the trip.

Upon entering the island, we could see there were still a lot of construction work going on (mainly from the Resorts World). There has also been a lot of changes and additions to the attractions. Carlsberg sky tower is now called Tiger skytower. New attractions (since our last visit) include Segway, Megazip Adventure Park and Wavehouse to name a few.

We alighted at Beach Station (the last stop) and looked for the way going to Palawan Beach. We queued to ride the tram but decided to just walk to the beach since we thought it was going to take longer to wait for the next tram than to walk. We made the right decision. Palawan Beach was just a few minutes walk (less than 5mins) from Beach Station, passing along the overpass where the tram drives through.

We passed by the Sand Sculptures...

just got back from buying drinks and chips

The kids didn't waste anytime changing into their swimming trunks and playing in the sand.

After a few hours under the sun and taking a dip in the beach, I brought the kids to the shower room (which was behind the Koufu center) to rinse and change. Then we walked back to Beach Station, took the Sentosa Express to Imbiah Station and walked up to the Luge through a series of escalators.

goodbye, Palawan Beach

can't wait to be back for more fun next time...

final glimpse of the sand sculptures

We walked back to Beach Station, took the Sentosa Express to Imbiah Station, then took the escalators up to Imbiah Lookout where the Luge was.

the kids were pretty excited about riding the luge again. This was our first time to take the night luge.
Cost for family ride 4 rides+ 4 chairlifts $49 plus kid riding with adult $2/ride.

The kids enjoyed the ride a lot. Ira was always checking his height on the meter to see if he can ride by himself. Still not tall enough though.

After the exhilarating ride, we walked back to Imbiah Station for our first glimpse of Resorts World. We just followed the signs to the RWS compound. There were still some construction going on within Sentosa.

on our way to exploring the Festive Walk. We gave Hotel Michael and Crockfords Tower
and the Galleria a miss since it was already around 10pm.

By this I mean there is cold air coming out from the holes seen in this picture.

We walked further until we reached the famous globe at the entrance of Universal Studios.

had to take this pic to compare with the one we had taken in LA

the Universal sign was a bit bigger than that in the US though

sorry kids, we still have to wait a little longer before we can enjoy what Universal Studios has to offer.
Maybe in a few months time....

no more queues at the ticket booths. It really was quite late.

Behind the ticket booths is this big Hershey's chocolate store.

the kids can't resist proding on the shelves

Ira loved this one in particular.
A chocolate/cookie jar playing "because your kiss, your kiss is all i miss"

We didn't buy any chocolates though. Just checked out the prices. Some are a bit expensive for us. Some are quite reasonable (eg. Hershey's giant bar cost $6, YUM!).

After exploring what's on the higher levels, we headed to the basement to see the casino. Of course, we couldn't get in because we were not properly dressed for it, we had kids with us, and we were not willing to pay $100 :)

Our day at Sentosa is over, for now. We are already planning for another day to explore what the island has to offer. Maybe a day or 2 in the island would do.
